Day 31: Fri 10 Jun - Streaky Bay, 9-18deg, mainly fine and sunny

Lovely quiet night with no wind or rain. A pre-dawn 5km walk out to Cape Bauer under cloudy skies started the day.
After a hot breakfast we headed out to Point Labatt 50km south along the coast to do some sea lion spotting. On the way we stopped at Calca an abandoned settlement which is slowly crumbling due to the weather and vandalism. Reached the windswept Point overlooking the sea lion colony and got a good view of the only Australian seal colony on the mainland. Only one seal was doing anything, the rest were lazing around on the beach, soaking up the sun.  Seabirds were also very plentiful but a bit far away to distinguish each type. The wind there, which felt like it was coming directly off the Antarctic, soon had us scurrying back to our warm car.

Next stop was Murphy's Haystacks, an unusual rock formation which are technically called Inselbergs. Basically they are boulders affected by wind erosion. Round trip 130km, well worth the effort.

Wendy had to do Army work in the afternoon so Greg read, napped and walked around SB in the rather cool breeze. A very neat and tidy town with lots of interesting features.

Salmon/pork chops and smashed veggies for dinner. Had to cook some of our spare veggies as we approach the very strict quarantine conditions for entering WA.

Hard to see them, but there are seals down there
