On the road again this
morning, heading South this time down the Eyre Peninsula. As we'd stayed
hitched up last night leaving by 8am was easily achieved. With all the wild
weather over on the East Coast, Tassie and even as close as Adelaide (where we
left just yesterday) we are counting our lucky stars that it was fine with a
light breeze when we left PA. However that wasn't the case for most of the
afternoon when it deteriorated somewhat with drizzle and a cool, brisk wind.
Port Augusta is where we had to make the
decision about going North (Alice Springs/NT) or continue our push to WA. As
the weather hasn't been too bad (fingers crossed it stays that way) we decided
to continue West.
First stop Whyalla, the Ship that is. The first ship ever built in Whyalla, "HMAS Whyalla" a Minesweeper built in 1941, now is high and dry 5km South of the city. It was then into the city and up to the lookout, rather a challenge towing a caravan. It was a nice view over the city, the industrial heart and the beautiful blue waters of the Spencer Gulf.
Cowell was the next stop for mornos and a look around. Nice little place with an amazingly large pub.
We eventually arrived at the Port Lincoln Tourist Park at 1:25pm; it is a very nice park overlooking the Gulf.
As the weather had just turned wet and cool we decided to have some lunch and then go to town in the truck to fuel up and stock up the pantry, fridge and cellar. PA is a well serviced city with plenty of the major brand shops.
Seeing it was still drizzling on and off, we
both curled up with a book for half an hour or so. It was then time for dinner - smashed orange
veggies with steamed greens.
