It is not as cold here as it
was on the "plains", so we were up early, and after a nice hot
breakfast and a cuppa or two we set off on our first walk in the Flinders; Mt
Ohlssen Bagge, which was listed in the "Hard Hike" category.
"Peak at 941m, steep rocky inclines followed by rewarding views".
Wendy was really looking forward to it?!@$. The spiel said allow 4 hours, but
we took 3 hours without rushing so we were happy with that. Great steady climb
with little pinches of steeper sections every now and again; 7.5km total. We
knew we'd done it when we got home, but it wasn't that hard.
After some lunch we got on
the bikes to shake out the muscles after the walk. Checked out the Solar Farm,
Airfield and the old Wilpena Homestead (didn't go inside as we needed a
ticket). Saw stacks of roos and more emus than we'd seen anywhere. But the cool
afternoon air soon drove us back to the van after 14.2km.
Had an afternoon visit from
Sue & Terry Pearse, friends of the Beswicks from Zimbabwe, who are staying
at Rawnsley Park Station about 30km away.
It was great to catch up with their news of family and travels.
Snags and veggies for dinner
and an early night after a fairly active day.
