Day 46: Sat 25 Jun - Perth, 8-16deg, cloudy with heavy rain and morning showers, fine & sunny in the afternoon

The rain showers were fairly consistent this morning so after brekky we jumped into the truck and headed for Fremantle. Even though it was wet it was still a nice place to spend a few hours. The Winter Festival was on; there was ice skating and tobogganing so the weather outside matched that. We ended up taking shelter in a boutique brewery, Little Creatures, where we had coffee. It was then on to the WA Wrecks Museum where they display the 1,000 of items and bits of ships, dating back to the 1600s that were recovered from wrecks along the West Coast. The most famous one of course was the Batavia, 1629. After the Captain went to get help some mutineers murdered 125 women and children.

The Dutch feature throughout the Museum and are credited with the first mapping of our part of the world and first setting foot on this mainland. When we exited the Museum it was like it had never rained; brilliant blue skies and sunshine. We continued our wander around Freo: The Oval, The Markets, Esplanade Hotel, the foreshore, and the lovely old buildings.

It was back to the van for lunch and a relax before going out for dinner at Brian (Wendy's cousin) and Sue's. Their son, Kean was there too and he'd grown a couple of metres since we had seen him last. Lovely night, tasty food and great to catch up.
